Monarch Grove

A little bit after the Oso Flaco journey, my brother, his fiancee and I went out to the Monarch Grove in Grover Beach. They wanted me to take some pictures for their wedding invitations, which I was only far too happy to do! While we were there, we watched the monarchs as they flitted around the grove and stood in awe at their sheer numbers covering the trees.

This is just a small example of how many butterflies were covering the trees.
The monarchs tend to be very active in December, so it's almost like we get our trees decorated for free!
Yep, more monarchs. They estimated that there were 15,000 of them there this year. That's actually down from previous years.
Some monarchs in flight. It almost looks like confetti in constant motion.
This gives you some idea of just how covered some of the trees were. All that orange is masses of butterflies!
My brother and his fiancee! Awww, aren't they cute?
Okay, this picture was actually taken on the lake in my brother's boat. It's the picture that was ultimately used on the invites!
