Neuschwanstein Castle

Probably the most famous castle, this was the castle Disney based Sleeping Beauty's castle on. The dream castle of King Ludwig II, it is amazing to behold. The guy may have been crazy, but he knew how to build a beautiful castle.

The view of the castle from the parking lot.

This is one of the main towers as the guide books and postcards would like you to see it.

This is what the tower REALLY looks like. There were souveneir shops and postcard racks all over the place.

Mischa and Scott standing on the side of Neuschwanstein. You can get an idea of how large this castle really is. This also includes a small sampling of the crowds. In the courtyard the lines reminded me somewhat of Disneyland with numbered groups and roped off lines.

The front gate into the courtyard. Impressively imposing!

This is looking at the castle from the courtyard. There were a few areas that had painted murals on the outside of the castle, and this was one of them.

This is looking towards Marienbrucke, or Mary's Bridge. Most pictures of the castle are taken from this bridge. You can see all the people standing there taking pictures.

Another view of the castle from the courtyard.

Another view of a tower. I kept waiting for Rapunzel to let her hair down. I was waiting for a long time and it never DID happen. I felt pretty gyped seeing as we'd paid quite a bit for our tickets..

The sandstone section of the castle. This is the area above the entryway.

This is the view from inside the castle. You can see not only the town but Hohenschwangau where King Ludwig stayed to watch the progress of his dream castle being build.

And here is the quintessential picture of Neuschwanstein, from Mariensbrucke. It truly is a beautiful castle, both inside and out.

Scott gives you some idea of how small the castle REALLY is... Or perhaps we were just fooling around a bit..

And the final picture, taken from the trail between the castle and Mariensbrucke. I could easily live in this castle. Well, as long as it was in one of the many rooms not included on the tour.
