Bishop's Peak
San Luis Obispo, CA

While visiting my family during the summer, a group of us got together and went on a short 2 mile hike. More information forthcoming when I drag the information from my brother. The party included my brother Michael, his friend (and might as well be my brother) Charlie, my boyfriend Scott, and of course, me. We would have climbed to the top, but my brother had just come back from Brazil, hadn't slept in 48 hours, and had to leave early the next morning for LA. But hey, who needs sleep when you could be hiking.

As we worked our way up the side of the hill, my brother realized he was too tired to get to the top. It was his fault, and had nothing to do with the fact that the rest of us are sorely out of shape. This is the view from the highest point we got to, about 1000' up from where we started. This is overlooking downtown San Luis Obispo.

We wound our way around the hill for more views of San Luis Obispo. After doing most of my hiking in Washington, I was surprised at how different the scenery was. I grew up in SLO and thought all the dead grass was ugly, but during the hike I really appreciated the gold touch it brought to the hills.

This is zoomed in to the little lake in the previous picture. I have no idea whose lake it is or actually if it's anyone's at all, but it sure is pretty.

Here is some of the native flowers that were in bloom during our hike. Again, very different from what we have in Washington but pretty in their own right. The tweaky stuff in the sky is where the film didn't advance quite right.

Before we left, I made sure to take a picture of Bishop's Peak itself. If we'd managed to get to the top, we would have ended up on top of this rock, about 1700' up from where we started. I guess it's good to leave a goal for next time.
