This is the view during the day from our hotel room. We were on the 23rd floor
of a huge hotel. The beds were futons and the room quite small, although it
was supposedly quite spacious by Japanese standards. To give you an idea of
how cramped it is in Japan, there were a number of places where streets ran
over the TOPS of buildings!

This is the view from our room at night. Our hotel was located in Shinagawa.
I used to remember what that meant, but it was something to do with river. I
made sure to remember the kanji in case the subway/train stops didn't have the
romanji name. They always did, though. Our hotel room had the largest window
sill ever. It was like 3 feet wide. I used to sit and read on the windowsill
while overlooking the city. It was a nice little private spot.

Our hotel was the proud home of one of the most high-tech toilets I've ever
seen in my life. I of course felt it was necessary to play around with it.
The button that interested me the most was the one that looked like a butt
with a fountain under it. While standing in front of the toilet, I pressed
the button and this little probe looking thing snuck out and started spraying
warm water VERY high and at just the right angle... Imagine Keith's surprise when I walked out of the bathroom with water all over the front of my shirt
and jeans. Now imagine his laughter when I explained it...

These are phone booths in downtown Tokyo. Because of how crowded it is, there
is no need for telephone wires everywhere. The cellphones were extremely
small in Japan and it was explained to me that the antennas didn't need to
be very long because they were always close to a repeater. The phone booths
here as you can see are cellular.

This is the view from Tokyo Tower. I thought this view was pretty interesting
because you have skyscrapers surrounding a VERY crowded graveyard. Someone
told me that they have to bury people vertically in Japan because there isn't
enough room to bury them horizontally. I don't know if that's true or not,
but interesting all the same.

Huh. Another picture of a graveyard but this time from our hotel room.
There are a lot of graveyards in Japan. Either that or we just ended up near a
lot of them. There appears to be some sort of ball game going on past the
graveyard.
