Tokyo, Japan
Ueno
Ueno Zoo

The Ueno Zoo seemed small for being in the middle of such a large city. It wasn't tiny, but it certainly wasn't vast either. But they did have the requisite "cool" animals such as a tiger and a panda.

Elephant! We saw this guy at the zoo. He was pretty animated. You can tell by the small ears that this is an Asian Elephant (as opposed to an African Elephant). This of course makes sense when you remember our location. What you may not be able to tell in this picture is that the elephant is scratching his bottom on the tree. Why I was possessed to take a picture of it is beyond me...

Ummm, can someone explain to me why there were penguins in Japan? It was over 90 degrees while we were there, and I was always under the impression that penguins were cold weather fowl. Granted, it would explain why I saw penguins at the zoo in Hawaii..

There really is a tiger in the middle of this picture. He's hiding in the dark. It was really neat watching him pace around in the dark and totally blend in. If someone hadn't pointed him out in the first place, we never would have seen him. Big cats are cool.

Oooh, Panda! This panda was pretty unhappy. He spent most of his time pacing around his small room. He was by far the most popular exhibit, though. There was a huge crowd pressed up against his glass enclosure taking pictures. You can even see the flash of someone taking a picture of him. Oh wait, that's me. I guess I'd be pretty irate if I was in a small room with lotsa flashing lights, too.
