All these pictures are taken very close to our condo. When I first walked out
there were a few people standing around drinking coffee waiting for the sun to
rise. At least I wasn't the ONLY one.

A silhouette of the tree on the right. These two pictures were taken at the
remains of a heiau. After that I moved down to the beach.

I was having fun taking long exposures of waves and this is one of the best of
the batch. I did learn that you should know your tripod BEFORE you go
traveling. Nothing like trying to work a tripod close to water in sand (it
kept shifting) and low to the ground.

Still no sun. I could have slept for at least 15 more minutes!

Here's another long exposure facing south as opposed to north. Quite fun
making the waves look more like mist. (But then, I'm a photo geek.)
|
Finally the sun came up. Looks like another clear day. Meanwhile the waves
are starting to get closer and closer to my sinking tripod and I'm busy
scrambling to get in a comfortable position in the sand without making my
tripod sink even more...

This shot was quite a bit of serendipity. I saw the wave breaking just as I
snapped the shutter and realized I might have actually caught the wave
breaking over the rock. The backlighting on the wave was merely icing. Soon
after this I ran out of film and realized I should be getting back to bed.
As I turned around I realized I'd been way too engrossed in what I was doing
as there was a rather large crowd that had gathered behind me without me
noticing. Oops. Nevermind that I had large red mud stains on my butt from
clambering around the logs and rocks to get pictures. Yeah, nevermind THAT.
