Sailing
Lopez Lake, CA

My brother owns his own sailboat, and he took me sailing while I was visiting. At first, I was a bit worried, but it was a very calm day, and turned out to be a great deal of fun.

Lopez Lake isn't a huge lake, but big enough for us! My brother let me take the tiller for a bit and I got to jibe, tack, and sheet the jib sail. Oh, and he taught me a few of the phrases, which I've probably completely munged. Lopez Lake is a pretty setting, lots of oak trees.

This is during a tack. I swear. My brother's sailing abilities are second to none, and he would NEVER let the sail look like this except in the middle of a tack. Yep. (For the record, it really was during a tack, but I have to give him SOME grief.)

Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat. It just looks like it. It's actually 26' long, and you can see the wind was down enough that we could dock without taking the sails down. This is the location of a sail in campsite. My brother and his girlfriend have gone back and camped there a couple of times now, I believe. Other than the poison oak, it's a pretty place.

When we docked, there was a tree full of these birds. Our guess is that they are camorants (or catamarans if you're Charlie). They filled the tree, and more arrived while we were watching.

Another view of my brother's boat. It still looks like a toy. Of course, I guess to some, it would be considered a toy.

Yep, another view of the boat.

Would you believe this is ANOTHER picture of my brother's boat? This is looking at it from the campsite, through the trees.

It's another picture of the boat! No, just kidding. It's another picture of those neat birds. After we left the campsite we headed back to dock because the sun was starting to set. Overall, a great time out!
